Bobby Short, one of the cabaret world's most revered performers and a symbol of New York style, has died at the age of 80. The cause of death was leukemia, according to his publicist.
A fixture at New York's Carlyle Hotel for more than 35 years, Short entertained thousands with his velvety voiced interpretations of the works of Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and other classic American composers. He performed for several U.S. presidents, including Nixon, Carter, Reagan and Clinton.
In 2000, Short was designated a National Living Legend by the Library of Congress.
