Social Security Trustees Lower Solvency Estimate
The trustees of the Social Security system say it will exhaust its assets in 2041, a year earlier than previously estimated. They also moved up by a year the point when the nation's retirement program's outlays will begin to exceed revenues from the payroll tax.
The Medicare trust fund is projected to exhaust its assets in 2020. The data came as the trustees release their annual report on the system's finances.
