Iraq Reports 12,000 Civilians Killed by Insurgent Violence

For the first time, the Iraqi government releases figures on civilian deaths caused by the country's insurgency. During the 18-month guerrilla war, 12,000 Iraqis have died. Shiite Muslims comprise the highest numbers; the insurgency is dominated by Sunni Muslims.
