The News Has Passed Fleet Street By

What Wall Street is to American finance, Fleet Street is to the British Press. Make that WAS. The last news organization to occupy the legendary street, Reuters, has just moved out. The headlines began in 1702 with a nine-paragraph edition of the Daily Courant. Conveniently close to London's Old Bailey prison and its High Court and plenty of pubs, Fleet Street will live on as a symbol of the tough journalism and wretched excess of the press.
