Cuts Cited as 'L.A. Times' Editor Resigns

John Carroll, the respected editor of The Los Angeles Times, is resigning, sources say, because of a reluctance to institute staff cuts dictated by the paper's owner, the Tribune Company. The paper's managing editor, Dean Baquet, has been mentioned as a possible successor.
