House Ready to Vote on Renewal of Patriot Act
The House is scheduled to vote Thursday on legislation that would make most of the USA Patriot Act a permanent part of U.S. law. When it was passed in 2001, the so-called "sunset" provisions specified some powers would expire at the end of this year so Congress could review the law. The Senate must still consider its own renewal bill.
