Based out of Austin, Tex., Spoon originated in 1994, creating music that was a mix of indie and punk rock — and drawing comparisons to the Pixies and Sonic Youth.
Based in Austin, Spoon first formed in 1994.
After an ill-timed move to a major label in 1998, Spoon has again embraced the indie route; the group has released three albums on Merge Records, including their latest, Gimme Fiction.
Fronted by singer Britt Daniel, the new album continues the songwriting success Spoon began with 2001's Girls Can Tell, which delivered on the early hype that formed around the band's resurgence when it became a favorite of both critics and fans.
