Poulenc, Shostakovich

Audio for this story from Performance Today is not available.

The Flute Sonata by Francis Poulenc is a gem of the flute repertoire. Poulenc was working on his opera The Dialogue of the Carmelites at the same time, and the themes of this sonata are woven through the opera. Emmanuel Pahud is the flutist, with pianist Eric LeSage, in concert at the Louisiana Museum in Northern Zealand, Denmark. Then clarinetist Paul Meyer joins the two for a Shostakovich original, called Tempo di Valse.
