Lauro, de Mello

Lauro, de Mello: There's an old joke about percussionists not being able to read music. But this percussionist is a professional improviser. We revisit summer 2005 to hear percussionist Thiago de Mello improvise in Aspen. It doesn't hurt that he has guitarist Sharon Isbin to improvise around. They start with the Venezuelan Waltz No. 3 by Antonio Lauro, in which de Mello plays wooden drum and shakers. And then one of de Mello's own compositions, called "A Hug for Pixinga."
