The Kirov Orchestra has a venerable old concert hall not far from the Moscow River in St. Petersburg. And they were the ones to premiere Mussorgsky's opera Kovanshchina in 1886. So they have an exceptional relationship with Mussorgsky's Overture "Dawn Over the Moscow River." They played it on tour recently at the University of California, Davis, with conductor Valery Gergiev.
