A man in Santa Cruz, Calif., had apparently been drinking quite a lot. He was out on the street, and he jumped into a taxi — or so he thought. It was only later that he discovered that the vehicle was really a sheriff's patrol car. The person he thought was a taxi driver was Deputy Esther Beckman, who stopped what she was doing and gave the passenger a ride to jail. It's not clear if he'll get credit for deciding not to drive himself home.
