Mozart

On this segment of the hour we look beneath the halo to the rascal wearing it. The man who could write music of transcendent beauty was also a man who loved nothing more than a good glass of wine, and a bawdy joke. We hear from the film Amadeus, read a couple of Mozart's silly letters, talk to scholar Neal Zaslaw, and hear a lot of music, including the Minuet from the Flute Quartet No. 2 in G, by the Nash Ensemble, the Hair Ribbon Trio, a little Horn Duo K. 487, #12, and the Rondo from the Horn Concerto No. 1. And Fred Child takes to the piano to try out Mozart's Musical Dice Game.
