February 17, 2006Steve Wynn is celebrated for his ground-breaking work with The Dream Syndicate, a band that helped invent the American indie rock scene of the 1980s. Now recording and touring with The Miracle Three, Wynn visits the World Cafe Live stage in Philadelphia, Pa. for a midday concert. His performance originally webcast live on NPR.org Feb. 17.

Wynn has built a strong, cult following for his prolific solo output since the early 90s. His latest CD, Tick... Tick... Tick was recorded with The Miracle Three in Tucson, Ariz. It's the third and final release in his self-described "Desert Trilogy" — a series that includes the 2001 CD Here Come the Miracles and 2003's Static Transmission.

"If Miracles was cocky, sprawling and swaggering, and Static was moody, nervous and dangerous, I wanted this one to push the boundaries in a different direction," says Wynn in his personal blog. "I wanted this album to be one that separates the wheat from the chaff, the men from the boys, the faint of heart from their wallets. I wanted to go back into the desert and battle the blinding heat with the dizzying neon glare that we would bring from New York."

Wynn is the latest in a series of live, midday concerts from NPR member station WXPN and World Cafe Live, with host Helen Leicht. Previous shows are listed at right.
