New York City's Branded Condom Program

Who says there are no bargains in New York? The city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene announced this week that it will soon start dispensing an official City of New York condom. Officials hope it will not only help reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, but help health officials more easily keep track of who was using the million or more condoms that it dispenses each month. Is it a million people each using one, or just five or six guys that use a whole bunch?
The announcements provoked a flood of speculation. Will the city be besieged by New Jerseyites who will go anywhere for a bargain? Will the foil- wrapped package of this new civic emblem depict the Statue of Liberty, Woody Allen or a slice of cheesecake?
Sarah Mullin(ph), a spokeswoman for the New York City Health Department, says they want to develop condom packaging that is noticeable and memorable, to promote condom use and awareness. There is only one possible theme song.
