Research Digs Up Examples of Ancient Dentistry
STEVE INSKEEP, host:
Good morning, I'm Steve Inskeep.
It turns out that the oldest profession might really be dentistry. Researchers have been studying skulls in a Pakistani graveyard. The skulls are between 7,000 and 9,000 years old. And according to the journal Nature, their teeth show evidence of sophisticated dentistry. According to the researcher, somebody was able to use some kind of pre-historic dental drill to put nearly perfect holes in the teeth of patients that were alive, but probably unhappy.
