U.S. Detainee Abuses Come Under Questioning

The United States faces tough scrutiny over its treatment of detainees at a United Nations Committee Against Torture meeting in Geneva. The U.N. panel wants to question U.S. officials on issues ranging from Washington's interpretation of the absolute ban on torture to its interrogation methods in prisons such as Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay. As one of the 141 nations that have signed the Convention Against Torture, the United States must submit compliance reports to the United Nations.
