'The Disappointment Artist' by Jonathan Lethem

"Every now and then a book comes along that renews my faith in the entire process, and it's never the ones I expect... More often than not, it's something that I find by accident.

"The Disappointment Artist: Essays by Jonathan Lethem will never be listed with his great works. It will never be as revered as Motherless Brooklyn. When it first came out in hardback, it was seen by the literary world as a snack between meals... But I have to tell you this book floored me.

"For a book just under 150 pages in length, it packs an unseen emotional wallop. Whether he is speaking about his absurd love for the John Wayne classic The Searchers or the 21 times he saw the original Star Wars in 1977, the one thing that's never in doubt is his passion. And that is rare. I write this hoping that this book does not fall between the cracks. Jonathan Lethem will probably write more popular books in the future. He is fairly young and has a world of accomplishments ahead of him. But for me, on a personal level, this is as good as it gets."

From Jeff, who listens to KWGS in Tulsa, Okla.
