Two U.S. military commanders told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday that the situation in Iraq is grim and may turn into a civil war. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was also on the hot seat, criticized for what some senators say is his mismanagement of the war effort.

NPR senior correspondent Juan Williams talks with Madeleine Brand about their testimony and other political news from Capitol Hill.
