Singer-songwriter Pete Yorn and opener Matt Duke performed live from WXPN and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on Aug. 11.

Yorn's on-stage experience began when he performed in his high school's talent show, but he's come a long way since then, graduating to L.A. cafes and clubs and then a major-label record deal. His debut, musicforthemorningafter, sold well, earned widespread radio exposure and spawned a rigorous 18-month touring schedule. He followed it in 2003 with the well-crafted Day I Forgot, and his new Nightcrawler has already been warmly greeted by critics in advance of its release.

Also on Friday's bill is 21-year-old Philadelphia-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Duke, who first attracted the attention of Drexel University's student-run MAD Dragon record label back in 2004. For someone so early in his recording career — his debut album, Winter Child, arrives in September — Duke's music conveys a surprising degree of maturity.
