Sarasate & Albeniz

Audio for this story from Performance Today is not available.

Spanish composers Pablo de Sarasate and Isaac Albeniz influenced the musical world with their colorful musical pictures of Spain. They also died within a year of each other in the early 1900s. Sarasate was known for his flashy violin performances, while Albeniz was appreciated for his piano recitals. Violinist Joshua Bell and pianist Frederic Chiu play Sarasate's Introduction and Tarantella. And pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin tackles the Rondena and Eritrana from Albeniz's evocative Iberia Suite.
