Dido's Lament

Audio for this story from Performance Today is not available.

Queen Dido has fallen in love with Aeneas, and at the end of Henry Purcell's opera, when he leaves, she falls apart and sings her great lament, "When I'm Laid in Earth." From a concert in Brunswick, Germany, Howard Griffith conducts the North German Radio Philharmonic in a version of the aria for strings by Leopold Stokowski.
