Famous Last Words

Famous last words abound, but composers communicate with the world through their music, so sometimes their last statements are transmitted as sound. Franz Schubert died young, and the work of his last year is filled with shades of illness and mortality. The Adagio from his last composition, the String Quintet in C Major, comes to us from a concert of the American String Quartet in Denver, Colorado.
