To celebrate the Shostakovich centenary, all this week, Performance Today explores the life and music of this fascinating composer. Today, commentary from conductor and scholar Leon Botstein, as well as the composer's son, Maxim Shostakovich. Plus, a recording of Maxim conducting the opening movement from his father's enigmatic final symphony, recorded in 1972.
