The Islamic holy month of Ramadan has been a deadly time in Iraq. Eighty-seven American troops have been killed in Iraq in October. It's the highest monthly death toll of the year.

But the number of Americans killed is dwarfed by the number of Iraqis who have died in the same period. More than 40 Iraqis died in attacks on Sunday, alone.
