Enron's Skilling Sentenced to 24 Years for Fraud
A federal judge sentences Jeffrey Skilling, the former CEO of Enron, to 24 years and four months in prison. U.S. District Judge Sim Lake also turned down Skilling's request to remain free while he appeals his conviction of fraud, conspiracy, insider trading and lying to auditors.
Skilling, 52, was convicted of those charges in May; the energy giant he once led collapsed in 2001. In addition to a prison sentence, Judge Lake also handed down an order for Skilling to pay $45 million in restitution to Enron investors.
Witnesses for and against Skilling -- including Skilling himself -- testified before the sentence was announced in Houston.
