Robert Coleman Trussell: 'Broke to Ride'
Web Resources
A Texas native, singer-songwriter Robert Coleman Trussell says he grew up hearing "freight trains rocketing down the tracks 50 yards from his childhood home, as well as coyotes, jet fighters and the familiar refrain, 'Quit that crying or I'll give you something to cry about.'" "Broke to Ride," from his album Texas Gothic, stars Trussell and his acoustic guitar and evokes that sparse Southern Texas landscape. Other songs on the album feature the occasional harmonica and fiddle.
Despite being exposed to jazz and classical music growing up, Trussell became an "acoustiholic" after he picked up his first guitar. He also plays harmonica. Kelly Werts plays fiddle on two tracks of Gothic.
Trussell lives in Kansas City with his wife Donna, a writer. Donna came up with the name for his album. Both Texas natives, Donna and Trussell agreed, as he said in an interview with hanx.net, that "there is something unique about the twisted psychology of people from Texas."
