Bush to Visit Vietnam Just as Trade Bill Fails

text sizeAAA
November 14, 2006

President Bush leaves today for an eight-day trip to Asia that includes a visit to Vietnam. He'll be the first sitting U.S. president to visit that country since President Clinton in 2000.

The highlight of the trip will be the Pacific Rim summit in Vietnam where trade, terrorism and bird flu will be discussed.

Madeleine Brand talks to NPR's Michael Sullivan about how the Vietnamese may receive Bush now that Congress failed to pass a trade measure that Mr. Bush had sought to normalize trade relations with Vietnam.
