RENEE MONTAGNE, host:
And our last word in business today examines the new digs for federal inmate 29296-179. That would be Jeffrey Skilling, he once ran Enron.
Yesterday, he began serving 24 years in a minimum-security prison in Waseca, Minnesota for his role in the $11 billion Enron scandal. Skilling will share a dorm-style room at Waseca and he'll likely have to work as required by the Bureau of Prisons, earning between about 25 cents and $1 an hour for jobs like washing dishes, cleaning bathrooms or making police or military uniforms. He'll have access to aerobics and a stair stepper for his off hours. And he'll have the option of taking a course in horticulture.
Since his conviction last October, Jeffrey Skilling had been living under house arrest in his 9,000-square-foot home.
