Tammy Duckworth's Husband Faces New Tour
Michele Norris talks with Iraq war veteran and director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, Tammy Duckworth, and her husband, Maj. Bryan Bowlsbey, a fellow National Guardsman who learned last month that he is being called up for deployment.
Bowlsbey leaves for training next month; he is going to be part of a transportation unit based in Kuwait.
In November, 2004, a rocket-propelled grenade struck a helicopter in Iraq that Tammy Duckworth was in and she lost both her legs in the incident. She came home to recuperate, and a year later she unsuccessfully ran as a Democrat for a seat in the U.S. Congress.
The couple has no problems with the deployment — though it comes a year earlier than they expected.
