The U.S. military in Iraq is reporting the deaths of nine service personnel, six of them in a roadside bombing in a province north of Baghdad that's considered a Sunni insurgent stronghold.

In a separate incident, three others were killed by a roadside bomb outside of Baghdad.

All of the deaths occurred Monday, making it the worst day for American forces in nearly a month.
