March 16, 2007Emerging from the psychedelic movement of the late '60s, animalistic garage-rock band The Stooges reflected the grime and grit of the underground. Led by the infamous Iggy Pop, whose peanut-butter- and blood-smeared naked chest became the stuff of rock legend, The Stooges featured a primitive rhythm section that reduced British blues-rock to a raunchy squall. After three blistering albums, the band collapsed under the weight of poor sales. In 2003, Pop surprised fans by organizing a Stooges reunion with former Minutemen bassist Mike Watt standing in for the late Dave Alexander. The band then re-formed with Watt to record The Weirdness, released this year.

Seattle-based KEXP presents a diverse mix of music, live performances and podcasts from indie rock and punk to jazz and old school soul.
