Playing Tchaikovsky On Spring Break
March 14, 2007 - Yuja Wang, 20, recently played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Wang, who has been playing piano since she was 6, began playing professionally when she was 10.
Wang has performed with orchestras in Europe and the United States.
But playing with the BSO was a big opportunity. She got the call after 65-year-old pianist Martha Argerich canceled at the last minute.
After just two rehearsals, Wang wowed audiences and critics with a piece she'd only played once before, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1.
Sean Carberry of member station WBUR reports.
