Mexico is tweaking its own policy toward immigrants. In this case, "immigrants" may not be precisely the right term. These new arrivals to Mexico are Mexicans who moved to the U.S. illegally and got arrested. U.S. authorities often take them to the border and drop them off — which leaves them with the problem of getting the rest of the way home.
As the U.S. tightens its immigration enforcement, Mexico has launched a system of free bus rides. Mexicans who are found in, say, San Diego, are likely to be taken to the nearest Mexican border crossing at Tijuana. From there, Mexico's government will now provide people with free bus tickets to their hometowns.
