Music legend and activist Neil Young has been bestowed with another honor. He's the inspiration for the scientific name of a trapdoor spider. Biologist Jason Bond, who discovered the new species, is such a big fan of the musician that the spider now bears Young's name.
RENEE MONTAGNE, host:
Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.
The Harvest Man is now a spider man of sorts. Music legend Neil Young has been bestowed a rare honor. He's the inspiration for the scientific name of a trapdoor spider. Biologist Jason Bond discovered the new species. He's such a big fan of the musician that the spider now bears Neil Young's name. If you're thinking music and spiders make an odd pair, consider that the whirligig beetle was named after Roy Orbison.
It's MORNING EDITION.
