Israel at 60: Palestinians' 'Absence of Tranquility'

text sizeAAA
May 14, 2008

In 1948, after decades of efforts to form a sovereign nation as a homeland for Jews, the U.N. founded the State of Israel in what was then the country of Palestine. It was a defining moment for the Jewish people, though Palestinians remember it as a catastrophe.

Co-host Renee Montagne talks with Daoud Kuttab, a Palestinian columnist and founder of the Arab world's first Internet radio station, AmmanNet.

Kuttab says 60 years later, Palestinians remain bitter about the loss of land and the "absence of tranquility."
