John Ellis Dances Like There's No Tomorrow

John Ellis (300)

John Ellis and Double-Wide performs at the Jazz Standard.

David Tallacksen

Saxophonist John Ellis and his group Double-Wide dance to a New Orleans beat, with Matt Perrine on sousaphone and Jason Marsalis on drums. Organist Gary Versace doubles the bass and adds keyboard excitement. "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" is the title selection of Ellis' new CD from the Hyena label. Perrine, by the way, is a disciple of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band's Kirk Joseph, the Pied Piper of the big, curly sousaphone that powers a New Orleans parade band. Hear the full concert.
