Songwriter Hayden Travels 'Field and Town'

In the dozen years since he released his first record, Toronto-based singer Hayden has developed a reputation as a sad guy. Hayden's homemade records are frequently hushed and intimate, but his lyrics are often so specific it's hard to believe they're not based on real events. Topics have included his own death, a "romantic grizzly bear attack," his cat and plenty of heartbreak.

Even though his new record, In Field and Town, has been pegged a break-up album by critics, he says it wasn't motivated by a particular romantic loss in his own life. Hayden stopped by the BPP studios to play a few songs and chat about coming to terms with his own creaky voice.
