Study: Emergency Rooms Often Neglect Mentally Ill
People with mental illnesses sometimes wait for as long as 24 hours before receiving treatment at hospital emergency rooms, according to a recent study by the American College of Emergency Physicians. In some cases, the wait can be deadly.
Dr. David Mendelson is an author of the study and explains the findings. Mendelson is joined by Nancy Sharby, mother of two children who are mentally ill. Sharby shares her family's experiences with emergency hospital care.
