Why Do We Care About Flag Pins?
Many politicians can't be seen without a flag on their lapel, but Sen. Barack Obama isn't one of them. Obama was questioned about why he doesn't always wear a flag pin during a Democratic debate in April. His critics say his lack of a pin casts doubt on Obama's patriotism, and recently the Democratic candidate has been wearing one. Robert Siegel speaks with Julian Zelizer, professor of history and public affairs at Princeton University about when flag lapel pins became a must-have accessory for politicians.
