August 15, 2008 - Lone Star State mainstay Lucky Tomblin leads a band of true-blue honky-tonk veterans that includes some of the best players in all of Texas and beyond.
Bassist Sarah Brown has played in groups with the likes of Marcia Ball, James Cotton and Albert Collins. Earle Poole Ball, "Mr. Honky Tonk Piano," played in the house band on The Johnny Cash Show on television, as well as on albums by Gram Parsons and The Byrds. Redd Volkaert was a member of Merle Haggard's Strangers, and is heralded by guitarists worldwide for his distinct tone and wild finger work. Volkaert and Ball also play in the country group Heybale!
Choosing its repertoire as a group, The Lucky Tomblin Band pooled songs from the '40s and '50s — some obscure, some less so — and updated them with an authentic yet modern honky-tonk sound.
