Marlin Fitzwater spent 17 years as a government employee before being appointed White House press secretary under Ronald Reagan. He also served as press secretary for George H. W. Bush.

In this 1995 interview, Fitzwater discusses his memoir, "Call the Briefing!" Reagan and Bush, Sam and Helen: A Decade with Presidents and the Press, which explores the relationship between the press secretary, the White House and the press.

Now retired, Fitzwater frequently lectures and consults around the country.

This interview was originally broadcast Oct. 26, 1995.
