A new pornography production company has won approval from Canadian authorities to distribute their product on television — with the promise that it will have 50 percent local content.

SCOTT SIMON, Host:

Good news this week for actors at Canada Stratford Festival after the summer season is over. Canadian regulators approved a new digital pornography channel that will offer 50 percent domestic content. Royal Canadian porn. The Radio and Television Telecommunications Commission requires only 15 percent Canadian material.

But Shaun Donnelly of Alberta's Real Productions, which is behind the new channel called Northern Peaks, says, quote, I think as Canadians there's a bit of tiredness in seeing all the American stuff. There's always that thrill for something that is local, and you get the sense that these are people you can meet at the supermarket. Really? What aisle? Now, it's irresistible to ponder some of the titles that may result as Canadian pornography becomes a source of national pride. "Dudley Do-Wrong," "Debbie Does Saskatoon," "Maple Syrup Madness," and "The Mounties Always Get Their Man."
