Punk-rock icon John Doe visited Mountain Stage in November 2007 to play songs from his latest solo CD, A Year in the Wilderness. Accompanied by Cindy Wasserman on background vocals, the former member of X and country-rock spin-off The Knitters now finds creative perspective from a place between L.A. punk and American roots music.

Though Wilderness has a full sound thanks to guest spots by Dave Alvin, Jill Sobule, Dan Auerbach (from The Black Keys), pedal-steel great Greg Leisz, Aimee Mann and Kathleen Edwards, the songs are heard here stripped to their cores in a live performance which highlights Doe's haunting voice and plaintive lyrical approach.
