text sizeAAA
September 14, 2008

When it slammed into Texas on Saturday, Ike was a Category 2 hurricane. Though the storm is still packing high winds and rain, it has weakened to a tropical depression. So far, Ike is blamed for at least 13 deaths.

In Houston, officials have issued a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew until Saturday. The most urgent rescue efforts are taking place in Galveston, where the hurricane came ashore.

NPR's Carrie Kahn has the latest on rescue efforts. And NPR's Ari Shapiro talks about some of the few businesses in Houston that are open to the public.
