Jimmy LaFave was born in Wills Point, Tex., but moved to Oklahoma, where he finished high school and started the first incarnation of his band, Night Tribe. Despite later moving to Austin and being based there for the past 20 years, LaFave maintains strong ties to the music of Oklahoma. Since putting out his first tape in 1988, LaFave has been earning recognition for his powerful songwriting — and has developed a reputation for his ability to render a Bob Dylan song unlike anyone else.

LaFave's latest album, Cimarron, features guest spots by Ruthie Foster, Carrie Rodriguez and Kacy Crowley.

This performance, recorded in Morgantown, W.Va., marks LaFave's sixth appearance on Mountain Stage since 1995. In addition to his own compositions, LaFave covers Bruce Springsteen's "Secret Garden" and Dylan's "Dusty Old Fairgrounds."
