Dice-K and Fenway: Fans Hope for New Magic
Pitching sensation Daisuke Matsuzaka, also known as Dice-K, has brought a whole new level of hype to Boston Red Sox fans. The team has committed $103 million for Matsuzaka to play for the club. Today, he makes his home debut at Fenway Park.
Buses full of Japanese tourists have been making the rounds at Fenway — even before Dice-K threw a pitch there.
Fans are wearing rising Japanese headbands, and T-shirt shops sell shirts with "Red Sox" written in Japanese characters. In his major league debut in Kansas City last week, Matsuzaka lived up to the hype, striking out 10 batters.
