American Idol routinely mows down the TV competition, and strikes fear in the hearts of its contestants.

Now Sanjaya Malakar — known more for his hairstyles than his singing talent — has made it deep into the competition. The often-grinning teenager has inspired a voting campaign intended to skew the show's results and by keeping Malakar in the running.
