Newly Discovered Ecosystem Of One Bacterium
Deep in a South African gold mine, three kilometers below the Earth's surface, scientists have discovered a tiny ecosystem in which there is only one organism. Dylan Chivian, the bioinformatics lead at the Joint BioEnergy Institute in Berkeley, Calif., discusses the finding.
