Comedian and filmmaker Rudy Ray Moore died over the weekend of complications from diabetes. He was 81 years old.

Moore was perhaps best known as "Dolemite," for his role in the 1975 Blaxploitation film.

To help put Moore's career in perspective, Farai Chideya talks with Todd Boyd, chair for the study of race and popular culture and professor of critical studies at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.
