Colin Meloy: '10-Dollar Words' For A Cause
The Decemberists are putting final touches on their upcoming fifth studio album, Hazards of Love.
As election day nears, the hyper-literate indie quartet The Decemberists has been staging get-out-the-vote performances at college campuses around the country.
The band also just wrapped recording songs for their upcoming fifth studio album, Hazards of Love. Terry Gross talked to lead singer Colin Meloy last year about The Decemberists' penchant for "10-dollar words" and the detailed character studies that emerge in their songs.
This interview was originally broadcast on Jan. 29, 2007.
Decemberists' Meloy Plays Live at 'BPP'
Colin Meloy, lead singer of the Decemberists, recently released Colin Meloy Sings Live!, an album of live tracks from solo performances. The songs include stripped-down Decemberists songs and other covers played at some of the best venues across the country.
Meloy is on a solo tour this month and dropped by the BPP studios to talk and play "Wonder," from the new album. Meloy says he wrote the song shortly after he found out that his girlfriend was pregnant.
